I'm a storyteller. If you asked me what my job title was, that would be it. Let's break it down:
- I convince my wife that sacrificing money now is not only OK, it's a requirement for happiness.
- I persuade my clients and my colleagues that I not only have a vision, it's a vision worth pursuing.
- I weave story-lines around what it is I am doing with my investor's money. None of these stories are untrue, but they do need to be condensed into a coherent structure that highlights the worthwhile nature of this pursuit.
- And finally, I convince myself that I am worth believing in, that what I am doing is worth believing in and that although I have no actual idea of what the future has in store, I will have some say in how it unfolds.
Every story has a great ending. I'm sad I won't be around to witness the aftermath mine, but hopefully the chapters I create along the way can snowball into something magnificent.
(ps: this is not a suicide note)
